1896-11-30The Arnprior Chronicle has been informed by a director of the O.A. & P.S. railway that next summer Mr. Booth intends to build a spur from Galetta to Fitzroy Harbour. This and the large pulp mills to be erected there will make things lively at the Chats.
Announcement of an intention; no spur entity exists, so filed on Galetta at the maintainer's direction.

1905-10-30Branch line is required. From Galetta to Fitzroy Harbour at once. A branch line from Galetta to Fitzroy Harbour is what the residents of Fitzroy desire. Whether this be a steam line or electric road the people are not particular. Galetta is four miles distant and a stage which is capable of accommodating half a dozen people makes the trip twice a day and in wet weather the drive is far from pleasant. 1907-02-20BLOCK AT GALETTA. Caused by Derailment of Freight Cars in Early Morning. The east and west bound local express trains on the Grand Trunk railway were delayed for nearly two hours by the line being blocked at Galetta through the derailment of a couple of freight cars. A west bound freight of about thirty cars, hauled by engine number 1367, was passing through the village when about half way over the switch a brake rod dropped and caught in the frog, throwing the switch open and side-tracking the rear end of the train. The draw-bars held firm and the two sections were held together by one of the derailed cars, dragged crosswise of the tracks. The wrecking train and crew were sent from Ottawa and had the line clear for traffic by 11.45. Ottawa Citizen 1907-02-20(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...)
1934-01-02≥By 2 January 1934 (the issue date), the paper reported: After a sleet and rain storm that began "early Sunday evening", on the C.N.R. Ottawa-Madawaska line "train service was completely blocked for the entire day", the section between Carp and Arnprior being the most seriously affected. The train due at Galetta at 9 a.m. did not reach it until 12.30 p.m.; "the wheels dropped from the rails near the switch just west of Galetta station a small section of the track was broken", and over fifty section men were set to work with picks breaking the ice between Galetta and Arnprior. Veteran railwaymen said they had never seen such conditions.
Filed on Galetta, where the derailment and the ice-breaking are placed; the same item also covers other places, filed separately.

1962-01-20≥By 20 January 1962 (the issue date), the paper reported: Kenneth John Boucher, 3, of Bells Corners, "was killed yesterday when the car in which he was riding with his parents collided with a freight train near this village" at about 1.55 p.m.: the car skidded "onto an unprotected level crossing about one-tenth of a mile from Galetta Post Office" and was struck by an eastbound train of 14 freight cars. His mother was hurt. "Residents near the crossing said they had been trying for years to have signal lights installed". Engineer Robert Flumerfelt, conductor Fred Swinwood. Ottawa Citizen 1962-01-20(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...)
1962-02-28≥By 28 February 1962 (the issue date), the paper reported: A coroner's jury "last night absolved a CNR train crew of any blame in the January 19 level crossing death of Kenneth Boucher, 3, of R.R. 2 Bells Corners." The car, driven by his father, struck a train on County Road 20 at Galetta, "about five miles east of Arnprior"; John S. Boucher testified he was unaware he was approaching the crossing until too late to stop on the slippery pavement.
Follows the crossing death of 19 January 1962.
