| 1893-08-19 | Engine No. 2 of the Colonization railway, named the "Wm. Beatty", arrived at the C.A.R. yards at Ottawa for repairs (the Free Press had said on August 8 it was expected down to the shops in a few days). It was one of the oldest locomotives in that part of Canada, one of a batch of twelve brought from Wales some twenty years earlier for the Toronto, Grey and Bruce road, and had been on the Parry Sound Colonization road since its inception. Built without a cab (a comfortable one was added later), it had forty-inch driving wheels of forged wrought iron and burned wood entirely under a broad-topped stack; driver Teague took up its companion engine No. 1 and brought No. 2 down by way of Toronto and the Grand Trunk, the 550 miles taking from Monday morning until half past five that morning. After repairs it was to ply the yards for a while and then go back to the Colonization road. | Ottawa Free Press 1893-08-08(Engine No. 2 of the Parry Sound road expected at t...),Ottawa Free Press 1893-08-19(Transcribed by Colin J. | 1893-11-04 | The old Welsh locomotive Wm. Beatty was entirely rebuilt in the Elgin street shops and was ready to go up the line again to its work at the far end; steam was raised on the morning of November 4 for the first time since its arrival and the engine was worked in the yard. On September 22 it had been taken to pieces for a complete overhauling before being shipped back to its run on the far end of the Parry Sound railway. | Ottawa Free Press 1893-09-22(Locomotive No. 2 of the colonization road taken to...),Ottawa Free Press 1893-11-04(Transcribed by Colin J.
