| 1893-10-24 | 1893-10-27 | The Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound Railway Company | Track laying on the O.A. & P.S. west of Arnprior progressed quickly through the autumn of 1893: rails began going down on the first ten-mile section on September 21, and by October 9 were laid three miles west of Arnprior with about 800 men on the road and grading expected complete to Golden Lake (84 miles from Ottawa) by November 15; by October 12 track was five miles beyond Arnprior, and an electric dynamo car was fitted at the C.A.R. shops to light night work as laying was pushed at about a mile and a half a day. The first locomotive reached Renfrew on Friday, October 20 (slipping into a ditch on the way), twenty men were reported to have laid 9,200 feet — a mile and three-quarters — of track in a day, and rails reached the agricultural show grounds on Thursday, October 26 (celebrated by a steady tooting of the whistle); a diamond crossing over the Kingston and Pembroke at Renfrew was then laid over four or five days. A passenger service to Renfrew was expected in two or three weeks, with Eganville the likely terminus for the winter. The 9,200-foot day and the Kingston and Pembroke diamond at Renfrew.
