1893-04-14≥By mid-April 1893, a large gang of men (seventy to eighty, later over one hundred) had been constructing the centre pier and abutments of the Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound Railway's bridge over the Madawaska River at Arnprior since mid-March; the crib-work foundation was solid square timber filled with stone and concrete, resting on a good rock bottom. Messrs. Wright & Sons of Hull were awarded the stone contract, supplying stone from the Hull quarries; McRae & Co. shipped 100 barrels of cement for the masonry. Chief engineer Mountain stated the bridge was expected to be completed about June 1. Work proceeded night and day, including Sundays. A new survey of the line through the heart of Arnprior, which would cut the town in half, was objected to by many residents as dangerous and detrimental to traffic. On May 12 the bridge site had been reported ready for the railway iron. Ottawa Citizen 1893-06-01(Transcribed by Colin J. 1893-07-28≥By July 28, 1893, two men working on the construction of the O.A. & P.S. railway bridge over the Madawaska had met with a serious accident the day before: a heavy girder fell from a temporary support and struck them, injuring the legs of both, and it was feared both limbs were broken; the men were taken to Arnprior for treatment. 1893-08-31Work on the O.A. & P.S. bridge over the Madawaska River at Arnprior resumed by July 14, with trestle work over McLachlin Bros.' siding also started; the iron superstructure passed over the line on July 26 and the Dominion Bridge Company of Lachine began placing it. One span was up by August 3, the bridge was about half constructed by August 9, the second span was being erected by August 17, work began on the last span by August 22, and the trestle work was completed by August 26, with Mr. Mountain reporting on August 22 that the bridge was to be finished that day (the Journal said the iron work was only about half completed and three weeks were still needed); the long approach was being filled in and the bridge was expected complete by Saturday night, September 2. Built about a hundred yards below the C.P.R. bridge, it was described as a magnificent structure. Almonte Gazette 1893-07-14(Transcribed by Colin J.
