| 1893-11-16 | The O.A. & P.S. station at Renfrew: the site was first debated in August 1893 (Mr. Booth said following the C.P.R. would add $30,000, so the station would be on the Smith vacant lot facing Moffatt's factory or the adjoining McEwen block), then reported selected on August 22 one block south-west of Main street; on October 3 it was definitely fixed on Doyle street beside the lacrosse grounds, entrance on Elizabeth street, Renfrew council agreeing on October 2 to close part of Doyle street on the company's petition (the site being recommended by Government Engineer Schreiber). Building began on October 9-20 (workmen first mistakenly started on the rear of Mr. James Reid's lot on Saddler street), by October 17 it had a veranda all round, and it was to be lighted by electricity. A large water tank was being built beside it by November 16, with an aqueduct to the creek beyond the lacrosse grounds, and J.R. Booth paid Mr. O'Keefe $1,000 for the property and $400 for damages caused by building the station. | Mercury 1893-08-18(Transcribed by Colin J. | 1896-07-17≥ | The O.A. & P.S. westbound train on Wednesday morning was delayed a few minutes at Renfrew for rather a strange cause. A swarm of bees was hovering over the track, directly in front of the station. Before reaching the station the train was stopped for a few minutes in order that the car doors and windows might be closed to prevent the bees entering and causing inconvenience to the passengers. (As reported by 17 July 1896; the source dates the event only relatively.) | Mercury 1896-07-17(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) | |
| 1898-11-04 | Business must be booming at the O.A. & P.S. station at Renfrew. A long new siding is being laid down this week; and the bright woodwork of a new cattle-slip shines out and shows from the other end of Elizabeth street. | Mercury 1898-11-04(Transcribed by Colin J. | 1906-06-15 | The Grand Trunk station is being improved. Last week, the Renfrew Electric Company was instructed to wire the station for the electric light. | Mercury 1906-06-15(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) | |
| 1907-02-25 | The Grand Trunk evening express going west on Monday night was frozen to the track at Renfrew station through the overflow of water from the tank. It was not until a freight came along and pushed it out that it made its way westward, nearly three hours late. | Mercury 1907-03-01(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) | |
| 1907-11-01 | The Grand Trunk station is being much improved this week by the painters. It is now a myrtle green, up four feet from the base, drab from that to the eaves and the roof an emerald green. The Junction station has been similarly freshened. | Mercury 1907-11-01(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) | |
| 1913-03-14 | The Grand Trunk station is looking a good deal better this week. The company's painters passed by last week, and cleaned up both inside and outside. | Renfrew Mercury 1913-03-14(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) | |
| 1987-01-09≥ | By 9 January 1987 (the issue date), the paper reported: The provincial fire marshall's office "confirmed Thursday that a fire which severely damaged the 94-year-old former CN train station here was deliberately set", the fifth confirmed arson in Renfrew in ten months. The fire was reported at 6:14 a.m.; "flames destroyed half the roof of the 130-by-16-metre building on Renfrew Avenue West and damaged the interior." For ten years the station had only been used to store equipment; "The train station was built in 1893 by Valley lumber baron J.R. Booth for his Ottawa-to-Parry Sound railway. CN eventually took over the line in the 1920s. Since 1980, the track has only been used about six times each summer. The line now ends in Renfrew." The date is the issue date; the item does not say on what day the fire occurred. | Ottawa Citizen 1987-01-09(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) |
