| 1909-11-25 | Grand Trunk Railway | The Railway Commission recently approved of the Grand Trunk building a siding from their yards to the Chateau Laurier site, crossing the C.P.R. property at the Dufferin Bridge, to facilitate the moving of building material for the Fuller Construction Co. Work was commenced on the siding and rails were laid to the point where it was necessary to cross C.P.R. property; there the men were met by a C.P.R. constable who threatened with arrest any man who would drive a spike on the property, since official papers of the order had not yet been served. | Ottawa Journal 1909-11-25(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) |
| 1909-12-03 | Grand Trunk Railway | The railway commission issued an order disposing of the dispute between the Canadian Pacific, Hull Electric and Grand Trunk railways over the G.T.R.'s application to build a spur line on C.P.R. property to the Chateau Laurier. The order authorized the G.T.R. to construct, maintain and operate the spur, required men to be stationed where it crosses the Hull Electric at all hours, and gave the G.T.R. the right to shift the spur to its own property at any time. The C.P.R. withdrew its objections and a gang of workmen were put to work on the spur, expected to be completed by the following Monday. | Ottawa Citizen 1909-12-03(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...),Ottawa Journal 1909-12-03(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher, same collection,...) |
| 1909-12-13 | Grand Trunk Railway | The Grand Trunk has removed the switch and rails connecting the C.P.R. with the Chateau Laurier on the complaint of the C.P.R. The arrangement as it was, was considered as interfering with the work of the C.P.R. main line. The G.T.R. will make a change which will give access to the Chateau Laurier and at the same time not interfere with the C.P.R. main line. | Ottawa Journal 1909-12-13(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) |
| 1910-01-10 | Grand Trunk Railway | Work on the construction of the Chateau Laurier will be shut down at the end of the week or thereabouts and will not be resumed until April. This was the information given out today at the office of the Geo. Fuller Company, the contractors in charge of the building. This is the result of the Dominion Bridge Company being unable to supply steel. | Ottawa Journal 1910-01-10(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) |
| 1910-03-18 | The Central Counties Railway Company | The shareholders of the Central Counties Railway Co. met at the Russell House, Ottawa, on Monday to authorize the directors to issue in sterling or currency the first mortgage bonds to the extent of $475,000 and to amend the draft deeds of the mortgage. | Eastern Ontario Review 1910-03-18(Transcribed by Colin J. | 1910-08-04 | Grand Trunk Railway | Local officials had not yet been notified that the strike was at an end, although a settlement was announced Tuesday evening (2 August). The Grand Trunk trains arriving and leaving Ottawa were still being managed by strike breakers and officials of the company. Not a man had been taken back on the Ottawa division, although all had reported that they were ready for work; at the trainmaster's office the men left their names, being told they would be called when wanted. It was reported at the Grand Trunk office that no freight was being moved on the Ottawa division, and one official stated that matters seemed to be worse than when the strike was on. The passenger service was being operated as usual, by the crews who had been in charge since the strike was declared. | Ottawa Citizen 1910-08-04(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) |
| 1910-08-05 | Grand Trunk Railway | Acting on instructions from the General Superintendent of Transportation, the local officials of the Grand Trunk last night placed twenty of the local strikers back at work, sending them to open up the branch lines on the Ottawa division, with instructions to take on others as soon as places are found for them. This was the first official word that the strike was officially off and that the men were to be taken back. There were no complaints against any of the men on the Ottawa division as regards the use of violence, so that all who went on strike were eligible for positions again. No instructions had been received locally as to the disposition of the pension question. A large number of the late strikers were at the Central depot last night to see those of their members who were taken on to man the trains again. | Ottawa Citizen 1910-08-05(Transcribed by Colin J. "The first line was opened from Ottawa to Coteau, Que., in 1882 by the late J. R. Booth. Another line from Coteau to the international boundary was opened in March, 1890, and another from Coteau to Parry Sound in 1896." "It was in 1905 that the general offices here were moved to Montreal to become a part of the Grand Trunk Railway." The oldest member, A. R. Holtby, started with the road in 1881 and retired from the C.N.R. in 1931; M. T. Ashe was president. | Ottawa Citizen 1947-08-14(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) |

Calcutt, a onetime engineer, was elected president, W. H. Taylor first vice-president, R. E. Merkley second vice-president and H. E. Landon secretary-treasurer; C. Rowley Booth, grandson of J. R. | 1960-09-03 | The Canada Atlantic Railway Company | On the last steam run to Ottawa, a history recalled that when "the Canada Atlantic Railway headed for Ottawa through Glengarry and Russell Counties" in the 1880s, "Ottawa, through the Grand Trunk Railway at Coteau Junction, now had fast, swift service to Montreal over the Canada Atlantic to Coteau." "The Canada Atlantic gave the longer CPR North Shore such a run for its money that at the turn of the century the CPR built its famous 'Short Line' from Montreal to Ottawa via Vankleek Hill, thus reducing the mileage to 111.3 miles." The two roads raced: "High spirited engineers threw the timetables out the windows and made the normal two and a half hour run in as little as 1.50 hours!" "The Grand Trunk made its belated arrival into Ottawa when it bought Booth's Canada Atlantic, which by this time had also gone clear through to Depot Harbor on Georgian Bay." | Ottawa Citizen 1960-09-03(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) |

R. Booth". | Ottawa Journal 1967-12-09(Transcribed by Colin J. Churcher in 'Local Railway...) |
